Becoming a Disney Adult: Introducing Micah to the Magic of Disney

Every year, my family takes (at least) one annual trip to Walt Disney World, but this year was extra special. Not only did we have our usual crew together: me, my parents, my sisters Amelia and Gracie, and their partners Jack and Keira, but we also brought my friend Micah along for his very first Disney experience!

We wasted no time in getting to the parks. When we arrived to the resort we were staying at (All Star Movies), we dropped our bags off and went straight to Typhoon Lagoon, aka my favorite of the two Disney World water parks. Disney currently has a promotion where you get a free water park ticket on your check-in day, and you can decide between Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, or even try both out! We spent most of our afternoon in the lazy river (the best part of the park, in my opinion). Such a great way to start off our vacation.

But the real focus was Micah trying out the wave pool. Now, if you know me, you know there are only two things at Disney that I will not do. One is Mission: SPACE in EPCOT. And the other is this wave pool. Every time I’ve been in, I question whether or not I’ll be making it out alive so I sat this one out and instead became his videographer. Before the trip, I showed Micah some videos of the wave pool before and he was determined to try it out. And he ended up loving it, though it wasn’t that surprising knowing him.

After drying off and changing, we headed over to Disney Springs for dinner. Disney Springs is always so beautiful at night. We had a huge family dinner at Wolfgang Puck which was so much fun. Our waiter had actually been vegan and he made me some delicious off-menu food since I’m vegan! Immediate cast compliment. After dinner, we also did a little browsing and I even saw a poster for Zombies 4 (Milo Manheim, if you see this, my Instagram DMS are wide open). Overall, Disney Springs was the perfect way to end our first night in Orlando.

Now for our first full day. I obviously had to take Micah to Magic Kingdom first. When people think Disney, they think of Main Street with Cinderella’s Castle at the end of it. First stop was, of course, Starbucks. But first real stop was Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. This is an interactive dark ride with the goal of helping Buzz stop Zurg using laser cannons to hit targets. The maximum amount of points you can get on this ride, and to be considered a Galactic Hero, is 999,999. Micah made it his mission from day one to achieve this. On his first try, he ended up scoring higher (but not high enough) than I’ve ever scored.

We then rode Pirates of the Caribbean (a classic), PeopleMover, and Tron. Tron is a must-do at Magic Kingdom. It is easily the best ride in the park. Based on the movie, Tron is a high-speed rollercoaster that takes you through a race across the Grid. With unique motorbike-style Lightcycles, this ride definitely stands out.

For lunch, we hopped over to the Contemporary on the monorail and ate at Contempo Cafe. I had a kale and quinoa salad which is my go-to meal at the Contemporary. Delicious as always.

When we got back to Magic Kingdom, we watched Mickey’s Philharmagic, which Micah contests is a must-do in the park. We also got to see Monsters Inc Laugh Floor, and ride Haunted Mansion, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and Seven Dwarves Mine Train! We were able to get on so many rides this day thanks to my parents who got Lightning Lanes (a paid, skip-the-line service) for the entire family! Thank you Mom & Dad!

Before EPCOT closed, we took the monorail there for a couple quick rides. First stop: Soarin’ Around the World. To quote Micah, “EPCOT’s kinda showing off. The first ride does beat out our first ride, sadly, in Magic Kingdom. Was that absolutely amazing? Yes.” His full review of this and the other rides can be heard here!

Remember when I said there are only two things at Disney World that I will not do? Remember how I said Mission: SPACE was one of them? Because I said that, he needed to master the challenge of not only Mission: SPACE Green (The easier level) but also Mission SPACE: Orange. He tried both of them back-to-back, and while I can’t speak on my experience on this ride (because I was waiting for him outside), he speaks on it in our first day at Disney vlog.

And so, our story is just beginning. A new video chapter will premiere each Friday at 10am EST on YouTube, with matching stories written here for every day of our trip. And next week’s podcast episode will dive deep into our entire trip! Subscribe and join the mailing list to be the first to step back into the adventure with us.
